Dim as a candle

November 30th, 2004 | Considered to be Musings

The human mind is supposed to be quite intelligent and able to do many things at once. Though lately, there have been very few signs of this from most on this planet. Either people are too caught up in the latest materialistic item or they’re busy acting immature and endlessly arguing in a continuous loop. Even if one were to point out the obvious facts on an issue to another, if they lacked the common sense and intelligence to comprehend what was being demonstrated, then they would never understand it.

Nearly everyone on this planet has come across another human who was lacking in the intelligence department and often missed the points that people made and for many, it is a frustrating thing to encounter. Often it send the person questioning how one could possibly be so unintelligent and then ponder on what causes such things in a less scientific way. The most commonly guessed cause is that one was not educated properly or did not harness the benefits of learning trivial facts and gaining skills and such an accusation often leads back to the parents.

The parents are nearly always blamed for ones lack of intelligence with the famous saying, “they obviously weren’t good parents”. While this may be factually so for some, one cannot help but think that it is the person’s fault himself or herself more so than anyone else’s. Ignorance is something that hinders ones intelligence greatly and is something so many people choose to us, which is a shame considering that these people may actually have a decent and valid opinion on things. Being narrow minded is something that also degrades the level of ones intelligence and serves little purpose in life.

Being narrow minded can only cause one to think more negatively about things without stepping back and putting things into a bigger picture. One cannot help but wonder if television, music and other distractive media are causing the rapid down climb. With the increased sales of gaming consoles that hardly involve any thinking or problem solving and children’s shows that hardly speak one English word these days, it is no wonder the population in the world is growing less intelligent by the second. It is something that should be more closely monitored if we are going to have any hope of keeping society decent in terms of intelligence and comprehension.

Intelligence is something often far overlooked and for the most part, abused. Many don’t understand the benefits of increasing your brainpower or decide that intelligence won’t get them anywhere in life. Some may be able to live their life without needing to understand things, ponder things and do things to the best of their ability and one shouldn’t say these people couldn’t continue doing so. One would imagine that living a life in those conditions, however, would prove to be unfulfilling and boring; an obstacle many of us on this planet try and avoid or overcome.

These people may be perfectly happy being ignorant and dim witted and if that is what they enjoy, we cannot be ones to say they can’t but the repercussions will be theirs only and it will be a sad moment when it comes. Realising that you’ve been an immature and unintellectual for the most part of your life can be rather depressing and whilst some notice their ways at the beginning of their life and change for the better, others are constantly in denial and hurting themselves as well as everyone around them. For the sake of humanity in general and the chance for a longer survival of this species, hope is certainly among the few of us that hope someday the people who chose to be ignorant and silly will grow up and little and understand things better.

Without intelligence and the ability to understand, little can be achieved and a lot of things in life will go unappreciated. It is a shame to think that the most beautiful things and important in life will be overlooked.

These are the moments

November 23rd, 2004 | Considered to be Reality

It is a dull November night and all I can hear around me is the seemingly automated sounds of car tyres screaming across the main road outside my window coupled with the low hum of my computer hard drives and fans. These sounds certainly are not an orchestra of wondeful beauty, to say the least and the dark, still night outside shows little hope of inspiration nor admiration. The sky, covered in a thick blanket of smoke-purple clouds, forbid the stars and the moon to shine their incandecent light upon the Earths surface, as if to forever bind us all in a eternal life of darkness and shows no glimmer of beauty.

Two of the window curtains are drawn aside to allow the cool, soft air to flutter through the open window and slowly trickle through my hair and over my skin, bringing a comforting relief from the ever tiresome and hot nights. The curtains dance with the wind, as if to create a new form of choreography that no one has ever seen before; it moves so freely, smoothly that it is almost able to send me into a hypnotic trance. I find myself merely watching the curtains move, with not a single thought in my mind, until finally, I come back to the reality of life and the boredom of the night and I sigh.

It is then, in my complete state of boredom, that I realise that these are the moments that make me cherish the smallest things as well as the better things in life so much more. I am left to do nothing more than smile.

Blind to see

November 21st, 2004 | Considered to be Musings

The world constantly spins and as we all would like to imagine and believe, we are constantly advancing and evolving. For some, the advancements and lessons learn are tremendous and great achievements are often made by these lessons and general knowledge that is gained along the path. Acceptance is something that is often improved for some people and used to the greatest means and often helps them grow as a person.

There are the opposite of these people, the type that choose to be ignorant and boost their own ego, at the expense of others pride and general emotions. Never willing to admit defeat and always willing to attack everyone on the slightest marginal detail, regardless of how petty the issue may be. These are often the people that cause the most problems and frustration between mankind. Their purpose is to do nothing more than meddle in personal matters and general issues and stir bitter anger or jealousy amongst others for their own amusement and self pleasure.

Everything comes at a cost, these days and is often a cost that is of great importance and hefty expense. Rather than things being harmless fun, things are often taken to the extremes and people are, needlessly and unnecessarily hurt just to bring the smile to another humans face. Everyone has been guilty of such a thing at one point or another but it is the people who choose to be persistent and pressuring on matters that are really the problem, and one that everyone should be more alert to.

Though, not everyone is strong enough to do something about it when it happens to them; either they’ve been made to feel so low that they don’t care for themselves or they believe they are powerless. This is often untrue and everyone is equal in the race for survival and pleasure, no one should be forced to feel lesser than another or as though they have no right or power to put a stop to being humiliated by others. Though these ignorant people may not understand the words of those who chose to put an end to the charade, at least the important things have been said and the words have now implied that the person will no longer be toyed with.

Even if the people they tell it to may not understand (or choose to), at least the future wave of people will know that one will no longer be their next target. The power these ignorant people have will soon diminish to a unimportant and useless level and perhaps then can we begin to live our lives in a better, more full manner and enjoy ourself, rather than be attacked by people who seem not to understand what it is doing. Perhaps the numbers of people who are the opposite of this negative characteristic will increase and for the better of the world, to create a more peaceful and happy place to be. Where disagreements don’t mean you have to argue mindlessly, where people won’t be needlessly abused or ridiculed for the satisfaction and ego boost of others.

We would be one step closer to being equal, without the constant war and decision of who is better in this forsaken planet. People could freely believe as they wished and feel proud of what they believe in. People could say what they wish without the fear of something bad happening from doing so and no longer would people suffer from personal turmoil of keeping their deepest thoughts and feelings inside.

This world would be more open, accepting, honest and above all, intelligent.

As equals

November 15th, 2004 | Considered to be Musings

It seems that the entire world struggles to treat other beings whether they be man or creature as equals. Constantly people find nothing more amusing and pleasing than to taunt and tease others for their flaws, finding nothing wrong with their actions and giving no mercy, respect or digity to the innocent victim. It happens in every stage of anyone’s life and nearly everyone will experience “bullying” sometime through their life.

There may not even be an apparent cause for some; they merely receive the insults because the crowd with ‘power’ belives they should. Ridiculing someone these days seems to be all about power and image, something that must be attained in life if anyone will amount to anything. At least, this is the opinion that is held by those who do make others feel bad for their amusement. Fortunately, for those who are chosen as the recepients of this unwanted attention, there are people who will defend these people, reguardless of the attention they will get for doing so.

It seems that anyone who isn’t with those that “bully” are automatically chosen as the next likely targets, just for holding a different opinion. These humans are so deluded with how their image appears to others and how justifies and cool their actions seem that they don’t realise it’s doing more harm to both parties than good. It only leads to regret later in life and sadly for some, it is a habit that is actually never lost; many continue to make fun of others and find absolutely nothing wrong with such actions. While the rest of society has to suffer the consequences and many will have to pay the price, something no one should have to do in order to please another.

Many choose to go with the majority who do taunt and tease just to avoid confrontation with these people themselves and they find that it is much easier to pretend to be someone else than it is to be one of those who are degraded. It seems that we’ll never accept someone is the same as the rest just because of skin colour, accent of religion and sadly, until we do, humanity is going to find such a horrid activity to be acceptable. It is going to continue in droves and masses until more people show courage and defend those who need it; despite whether one believe they deserve it or not. The human life isn’t created so it can be picked at by others and it isn’t created so we can treat others differently, like outcasts or lower class based on trivial, fine details.

You may be black, you may be white, you may believe in God or believe in something completely different or nothing at all but at the end of the day, you are exactly the same as everyone else on this planet. Whether you’re wealthy or poor, your money, skin colour and religion choices do not create you on higher or lower plains. We’re all human and that’s all.
